Apply to Become a YouLeader

YouLead summit seeks the most stellar and innovative East African youth leaders aged between 18-35 from all disciplines, cities, and regions in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, DRC, Ethiopia, and South Sudan. Delegates will come from state and non-state stakeholders working on youth-driven solutions to communal challenges and regional development! Do you think you have what it takes to become a YouLeader? Then you should stay tuned for the application announcement.

Participation fee


Our aim is to make it possible for as many young leaders to participate in YouLead Summit. For this reason, we have opted for a sustainable-shared financing model to participation. Thanks to the generosity of YouLead Summit partners, the participation cost for all selected delegates are fully covered. However, the participants are required to personally fund their round trip transportation to the Summit.

  1. Full board accommodation, Conference facilities, and administrative costs ($500): Fully sponsored by YouLead partners.

  2. Round trip transportation to the Summit: To be funded by selected delegates either through personal funds or sponsorship by their organisation.

The MakeShift Innovation Hub is a three-day series of showcasing and delivering incubator and accelerator services during the East Africa Youth Leadership Summit 2019 in Arusha. The Hub is a collective effort of successful innovation hubs; incubators and accelerators supporting youth enterprise, initiatives and development activities in East Africa. Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT), Ndoto Hub and MS TCDC curate the series in developing the program, bringing in the partners and relevant supporting stakeholders and coordinating youth engagement for the hub.

Focused on EAC 20th Anniversary, highlighting the successes and noting remaining challenges of implementing the EAC Common Markets Protocol, Customs Union Protocol and how such an enabling regional policy environment could better facilitate youth business leaders engagement in cross border business and enterprise.

  4. Ubuntu Talks Series on Harnessing Technology, Innovation and Globalization for Youth Leadership and Development

Forum on the Status of Youth Refugees and Migrants

Focused on amplifying the voices of youth refugees and migrants (the life journey and experiences) in governance and development processes, examining best practices and assessing the progress on implementing the Geneva Convention enshrined duration solutions to refugee issues in East Africa (local integration, resettlement and voluntary repatriation)

East African Youth calling upon AU Member states to ratify and implement the Africa Intercontinental Free Trade Agreement, if they have not yet done so and put in place an enabling environment for African Youth Business Leaders and Entrepreneurs to harvest benefits to the highest extent possible.

East African Youth calling upon EAC Partner States to unconditionally move toward full implementation of the EAC Common Market Protocol without reservation; put in place an enabling environment for East African Youth Business Leaders and Entrepreneurs to harvest maximum benefits enshrined in the protocol to the highest extent possible for a full experience of the implied regional integration enshrined in the renewed EAC founding Treaty.

YouLead Action Network Action Track: The Post-Summit Agenda

Activity 1

 

Cross-Country Partnerships, Learning and Action for Change through the YouLead Action Network: The East African Youth Community of Interest

The first half of the day is dedicated to forming the YouLead Action Network for each country and designing the Post Summit Agenda of Action. Delegates from each country and partners present from the country will go through a process of prioritising action after the summit and establishing ways of collaboration. Actions will include those to be done at country level and those requiring regional collaboration - actions that promote collaboration with delegates and partners from other countries.

Activity 2

 

The second half of the day is dedicated to field visits and guided learning and leisure tours are planned in and around Arusha. Visits include tour of the EAC, African Court on Human Rights, and United Nations Mechanism for International Tribunals among others. Leisure tours such as visit to Arusha National Park, Foot of Mount Kilimanjaro are also planned as options.

  • Present to the EALA Speaker policy issues arising out of each country YouLead Town Hall, National Youth Assembly and the consolidated outcomes with a note of demand from the YouLead Summit
  • Conduct a mock Vijana EALA Assembly Session
